// aphasein: Death 'n Rebuilt

Hello kids, Happy Festival o' Lights!! We lost a month and moved shop (geographically), but we're back again with presence (and presents). Today brings the last of the aphasein releases, capping the nearly 12 years together and clearing out the archives. This is all of aphasein's catalog until new tracks are created.

The Free double B-side albums, 'Death Game'n' and 'rebuilt'x' are some interesting oddities; 'Death Game'n' is an archive of the very first songs together, reflecting the ebm/industrial and early videogame influence of their origins (esp. Zelda and Super Mario dungeon themes), while 'rebuilt'x' is a remix album of songs from that same time period, constructed over an 11-year timespan (so the first couple tracks are from late '97 and the last 2 are the newest tracks from '08).

The album covers are also a throwback, with 'rebuilt'x' being an obvious recreation of the 'Lunatic Harness' album by Mu-ziq (one of the most important catalyst albums for aphasein during 1997). The reel-to-reel has appropriately enough been replaced with the Amiga600. 'Death Game'n' on the other hand, is a nod to all the blank CD labels that were filled in on mix/demo CDs throughout the years (and mildly to Tortoise's 'TNT' album). The 'x and 'n from the titles reflect the transition from the early days of aphasia - aphasiax - aphasian to aphasein, and are also an homage to Squarepusher's 'Burningn'n Tree' early archive album. Plus, the titles fit the themes better. Enjoy the origin story.
